An Exciting Monday

Our field trip to the Great Blue Heron Reserve went really well.  The children had an art lesson and got to draw a blue heron and paint a beautiful tree.  They also had a great time hunting for bugs, spiders, frogs and snakes.

Our classroom caterpillars also emerged as butterflies today.  How exciting!  We will observe them in the butterfly cage and release them on the school field this Wednesday at 2:50pm.  Feel free to come early that day to see them set free!

This week

Hello everyone,

We have a busy week this week with the Spring Sing and the field trip.

Monday May 14 – Field trip to the Nature Reserve.  Please arrive on time, wear play clothes and bring a lunch.  The K’s are pretty excited to go on a “bug hunt”.

Tuesday May 15 – Spring Sing.  The K’s have been working very hard on their songs for the concert.  The concert starts at 7pm and the children can be dropped off in their classroom at 6:40pm and should be wearing full dress uniform.

Wednesday May 16 – Used Uniform sale starts at 3pm in the church lobby.

Friday May 18 – Crazy Hat Day.

The memory verse is a little different this week.  We are going to be working on all of Psalm 23.  The children will be bringing home a booklet on Tuesday with the whole chapter.  They may practice at home, but please do not let them worry about memorizing it all by Friday.  We are going to take it on as a class challenge over the next few weeks and will use lots of actions to help us remember it.

Lastly, I need a few volunteers who have a passion for all things crafty.  Let me know if you’d like to help with scrapbooks or graduation hats!

Thanks!

Miss King

Service Day

We completed our Service Day project today because the weather was nice.  I’ve attached some photos to the website which are password protected.  Please let me know if you’d like the password so that you can view them!

Thank you so much for your generosity with the Give it up for Hunger hotdog lunch.  The school raised almost $1300 and contributed hundreds of canned goods.

New Hometime Routine

We are going to start a new hometime routine tomorrow to prepare the children for being more independent in Grade 1.   The children will be getting their backpacks and changing their shoes on their own, and will be sitting at their tables all ready to go (hopefully!) when you arrive to pick them up.

Caterpillar Update

Here are our caterpillars as they were on Friday.  They all decided to climb up to the top of their container.

Here are our caterpillars today after having each made a chrysalis:

They will (hopefully) take 8-14 days to transform into butterflies.

Easter by the Kindies

The children have been working very hard remembering all they have learned about Easter.  They all had a chance to share what they remembered about Easter. Feel free to listen to their version of what happened:

Give it up for hunger

May 7-11 is Hunger Awareness Week in Canada.  The Salvation Army has asked us to partner with them in the “Give It Up for Hunger” Campaign, and on Thursday, May 10, they will be bringing their food truck to our campus and providing a hot dog lunch for all our students on campus.  What they ask in return is that we donate the amount our lunch would have cost, and all the proceeds will go to the food bank.  The minimum suggested donation is $2.00 for a hotdog, $1.00 for chips and $1.00 for a drink, but everyone is encouraged to give whatever they can to support the close to 900,000 Canadians who rely on food banks each month in Canada.
